Captell Developments have a
comprehensive training program available for
Captell Enterprise. This is delivered by one of
our Captell specialists at your site. We
come equipped with our training lab consisting
of a small "production" like network which we
will set up on site to facilitate the training
practice sessions.
The course runs for 2.5 days and
covers all aspects of installing and using the
Captell system for IT management reporting.
See below for further details.
Introduction
A brief demonstration of Captell
facilities is given and the attendees are given
an overview of the training.
Loading data
Getting data into Captell is
covered in this unit; from determining
requirements through to identifying suitable
data sources and finally defining the data
sources to the Captell system.
Lab session (loading
data)
This initial lab session covers
getting data into Captell. Our training
lab consists of 5 laptop computers running
Captell connected to a Windows 2003 server which
provides the sample data in various forms such
as Excel, text, SQL Server and Oracle. The
attendee creates the necessary table definitions
in Captell to facilitate loading the data to
their Captell database.
Summarisation and sub
setting
Defining Captell queries using
the query definition facility and the Captell
query builder are covered in this unit.
SQL primer
For those no familiar with
Microsoft Transact SQL this unit provides a good
overview of the parts that are relevant to
Captell, namely the SELECT statement.
Parameters
The definition of Captell
parameters is covered here. Parameters
allow the output of Captell queries to be
changed without having to change the actual
query.
Pivots
Captell pivots allow the
transposition of columns with rows in source
data, their definition is covered in this unit.
Lab session
(summarisation)
During this lab session the
attendee creates a number of Captell queries
that summarise and subset the data defined in
the previous lab. A number of reporting
scenarios are presented which the attendees find
solutions to through the query, parameters and
pivot facilities.
Charting
The definition of Captell charts
is covered in detail in this unit.
Traffic lights
The definition of traffic lights,
graphical shapes that change colour based on
data from the database are covered here.
Lab session (graphics)
Leading on from the summarisation
lab session, this session sees the attendee
turning the query results into graphical output.
Documents
The generation of IT management
reports using the Captell document facility is
presented in this unit. It includes basic
word processor operations alongside conditional
formatting and the inclusion of other report
objects (queries, charts etc.) into the
document.
Captell Service
The Captell Service which
provides for the background update of Captell
databases is detailed in this unit.
Captell Web
A detailed presentation on the
facilities available with the Captell web is
provided. The attendee learns how to
publish Captell report objects to the Captell
web facility and how the define Captell click
through
Lab session (documents,
service and web)
This lab session wraps up the
practical aspects of the training with the
generation of a completed document including all
aspects of previous labs.
Installation and
configuration
An overview of the installation
and configuration is provided here along with a
discussion of various ways organisations can set
up their reporting infrastructure including
monitors and the transportation of IT management
data.
Captell database
Here we discuss establishing SQL
Server for use by Captell, we cover how the
Captell database is structured and how
organisations can use SQL Express if they do not
have a full SQL Server license.
Security
Database, Function and report
object security are covered in this unit.
Wrap up
Finally we wrap all the topics
covered in the training and have a general
discussion on the best ways attendees can
utilise Captell in their specific organisations.
