The
main Captell window |
|
The main
Captell window shows the Captell
Explorer which presents the Captell
report objects in a hierarchical tree
diagram. The Captell Flow diagram
which shows the relationship between
report objects and the Captell tasks
list which shows the active and
scheduled tasks.
From this window
Captell report objects are developed and
maintained. |
 |
Defining a Table |
|
Captell
can read data from many different
sources including, text files (either
delimited or fixed width), SQL Server,
ODBC, and Oracle.
Captell
Table definitions support data culling
and archiving and can be scheduled to be
updated overnight. |
 |
|
This
example of a table source definition is
for access to an Excel spread sheet.
All table definitions allow for the
executing of an SQL select statement
against the source data this allows for
the summarisation of the data before it
hits the Captell database. Limited
data cleansing and filtering can also be
done. |
 |
Defining a Query |
|
To
summarise and subset the data Captell
utilises standard Microsoft Transact SQL
Select statements. |
 |
|
An
alternative to creating your SQL Select
statements manually is to utilise the
Captell Query Builder facility. |
 |
Defining a Chart |
|
The
Captell charting engine is very powerful
allowing many different series of data
to be plotted on the same chart with
different styles and different axes.
See the online demonstration of Captell
Dynamic Chart and Dynamic series. |
 |
|
Many
different chart types are supported. |
 |
Defining a Traffic Light |
|
A traffic
light is a shape that changes colour
based on data from the database.
Captell supports up to 10 different
ranges for it's traffic lights.
Traffic
lights make excellent document
summaries. |
 |
Defining a Parameter |
|
To
control Query, Chart and Document output
Captell supports parameters. |
 |
Defining a Pivot |
|
A
transformation engine to pivot columns
to rows and rows to columns generating a
summary on the way. |
 |
Defining a Document |
|
Other
Captell Report Objects such as charts,
query output or traffic lights can be
dragged to the Captell document.
When the document is reopened the
objects can be automatically refreshed.
Textural
changes can also be implemented in the
document such that the body of the
document can change based on data from
the Captell database.
Conditional formatting has been
implemented to control the font, colour
and other attributes of text from data
in the database. This allows for
very sophisticated automatic formatting
of the document all based on the data in
the database. |

Captell
web interface showing a query or
table |
|
The
Captell web interface consists of a
series of ASPX pages that link directly
to the Captell database. All data,
charts and documents are drawn from your
database, i.e. there are no stored
static images.
There
are a lot of tailoring options available
within the web system, supplied as part
of the package is this basic interface
which lists the objects available in the
left hand pane and the data, chart or
document in the right.
This
screen shot shows the presentation of
data from a Captell query. If
required the data can be exported from
the web interface to an excel
spreadsheet. See
online demonstration of Captell web
interface here |
 |
Captell
web interface showing a chart |
|
Charts
are dynamically created when requested,
this screen shot shows a chart that also
has a parameter published with it.
This allows the user to select from the
list of available parameter values and
have the chart redrawn appropriately. |
 |
Captell
web interface showing traffic lights |
|
Traffic
lights can be grouped to allow for
simple summary or status reporting over
the web. |
 |
Captell
web interface showing a document |
|
Captell
document archives are also available
through the Captell web interface. |
